California Juke Joint Tour Continues...
Bernie Pearl runs an all acoustic Blues Jam at
"Sacred Grounds" Coffee House in San Pedro, Cal
every Tuesday night for the last couple of years..
Bernie is a local legend and has played the Blues with the likes of Feddie King, Harmonica Fats, Brownie
Mcgee, Papa John Creach, and many more blues greats. Bernie has been on the Radio and been an organizer of Blues Festivals . He is a great all around bluesman.
We all come and sit in....You never know might show up ....
Fred the behind the counter man tap dances. He really is a wonder. I have never seen anything like this in all my travels to every bar and dive in the area.
This is still going on as on May 2003...over two years!
Len the Bass player in the above pictures makes electric resonater guitars...Taj Mahal has one ...it is called the Nellie. Bobby Joe Smith is a Luthier...that is not a religion...he works on guitars...he has done work for B.B.King....Doug McCleod...and many more...
He now is owner of the Blue Mule Rehearsal Studios
in San Pedro and may shortly be making his own brand of guitars!
Bring your Axe down to the jam and sit in. It is a friendly atmosphere and you get to play with the greats!

Buff Smith and the Blues Buffet Band...
Buff now plays at Martini Blues on Wed. nite with the Vibe Tribe.
Each member is a pro in his own right and in now playing with other pros all over town!
Guitar -Glenn Harp-James Murphy Drums-Mike Buff Smith- Keys When "Linda" joins them on vocals they can't be beat. Linda has the real deal blues voice...she can really belt out a tune. She has played with this band at B.B. Kings and other venues.
"Rosie" is also a regular who joins the band playing guitar and having a good time. This place is good place to come if you are a bit shy
because it doesn't have a competitive vibe. Bring you axe and join the band or just come to have a brew and listen to a bit of Americana at work!
Pool Tables, drinks, snacks, good people, great music..

Buffs dad was a professional squeeze box player way back in the day....you guessed it...his dad played with Lawrence Welk...a one , and a two....DAD played even before the Golden years of Television!! Buff does have a genetic link to that Lounge sound...but when joined by the right people can belt out the Blues with the best of them. Yes he still has his dads squeezer...and his own vintage B-3 with the cool speakers that rotate....
Don't waste your Wed. night watching T.V. dust off you rig and get down to Martini Blues and get yourself back into the groove....Yeh!

Rosie is on a compilation C.D. . Buff is the Maestro...etc. etc.

...After one year and a half of pure blues harp blowin' BHB breaks out
his "Electric Uke" and trades licks on the Swing Classic...."I'll be glad when you're dead you rascal you!".....The house came down!
This is an example of a typical Orange County gig...kind of.
The Barnburners with BHB were nominated for best blues band in
Orange County for 2003. Held at the Grove in Anaheim. It was a big
deal ... The Crowd went wild......Stay behind the barracade!
Coach Jam is no longer with us as of May 2003...thank you Chuck
for all the good times we had.....I left it here for the memories....
COACH'S B&G Hawthorne...Wen. night Blues Jam with CHUCK MATHIEU
7 pm till about 11pm. Singer , Songwriter, all around bluesman, Chuck is
also just a real nice guy. Pretty informal..great food and drinks...sometimes
many players show up. , Bernie Moffatt plays Bass,(Bernie is a former Radio D.J. of many stations and he worked with George Carlin!) Stan the Guitar man...and a host of others....(varies each week) Russell "T-Bone" Sommers ,(done broke down)
does his originals ...nice Family Atmosphere for the most part. Many Local
Blues Players who are in bands around town show up too. Drummers, Harp
Players, etc. Pool Tables, Bar, great food and service...Sports Bar vibe

CliScott Hudson and his wife both are Professional Drag Racers...Scott is the founding father of The Barnburners. He is the Bass player. A man of many
talents...Scott had one of his cars here ! Juke Joint Duke also played here and was here with his wife. It was a very nice day and filled with Drag Race People from the Past and Present. What a great sport. (Do not try this at home.)
